Will Anti-Perspirants Help My Body Odour?

An anti-perspirant is a chemical applied to your body to either mask or stop body odour caused by bacterial breakdown of sweat in the armpits, feet, groin, or buttocks, and in severe cases, vaginal secretions from the vagina. Subclass of antiperspirants is called deodorants which, rather than blocking the sweat, just prevents sweating. They can be applied to areas where excessive sweating occurs on parts of the body, such as the arms, legs, face, etc. There are different types of deodorant, but it’s important that you’re aware of how to identify a genuine deodorant from a treatment and how to apply it correctly.

Learning how to get rid of body odour using an antiperspirant or deodorant involves knowing the active ingredients of the product. You may be familiar with the common perfume or Cologne used to mask unpleasant body odours such as garlic and onions. The active ingredients of these products are the same, albeit in a diluted form. So, if you’re going to use these products, learn how to effectively identify and use the right product for your condition.

Deodorants work by creating a thin barrier on the surface of the skin to block unpleasant smells before they permeate into the bloodstream. The ingredients vary for each product, but most contain some type of aluminium chloride dihydroxyacetone, also known as ACD, which acts to block sweat before it enters the blood stream. Products which contain aluminium chloride and carbomer solutions are less effective and can result in serious skin reactions. Therefore, use deodorant carefully, consulting your pharmacist or doctor if unsure of how to use a particular brand.

If you’re not familiar with the composition of the deodorant you’re using, do some research online and find out what you need to look for. Inability to properly assess the composition can lead to an ineffective product that can mask the problem instead of solving it. Deodorants should always contain an aluminium chlorohydrate component as this is the most effective at blocking the sweat from permeating the skin. The other common component is the antiseptic phenol that kills bacteria. Antiperspirant products which fail to mention these ingredients and use high levels of phenol can also have undesired side effects.

Deodorants can provide a number of benefits when used correctly, such as eliminating body sweat and body odour. However, if you use deodorants incorrectly, they can have the opposite effect. For instance, excessive use can lead to excess dryness and irritation. Deodorants containing chlorine dioxide are the worst because they can lead to smelly showers or worse, smelly clothes! People who have a problem with body odour may be able to cover up the smell temporarily by using chlorinated deodorants but in the long run will have to suffer in order to hide the problem.

It’s important to read the instructions on the bottle or label of the deodorant you’re thinking of buying. Most people think that anti-perspirants should work quickly, but in fact they don’t work that fast and sometimes take even longer than you might expect. If you use the deodorant once every couple of hours, it won’t have any effect, whereas if you apply it more frequently you will see an improvement in your body odor. To avoid causing skin irritation, try to use the anti-perspirants with cotton and good breath-mints.

The easiest way to overcome body odour problems and stop them in their tracks is to use talcum powder instead of relying on deodorants. Talcum powder can absorb liquids much better than deodorants and leaves your body smelling fresh all day. If you are suffering from body odour problems, use it regularly until they disappear.

Deodorants can be bought over the counter, from your local chemist or supermarket. Using a deodorant can help in many situations but there are some situations where it’s not going to do the trick. In particular, if you are someone who gets heavy sweating it may be a good idea to speak to your doctor. They may be able to prescribe you medication or suggest something you could use to help stop your sweating. Deodorants are great for many people, but they aren’t for everyone.
